Preachin'

Today's service at John 3:16 was AWESOME! The guest preacher today was James Payne. I liked his style...he was blatantly honest and didn't worry about stepping on anyone's toes. He preached from the Bible and then from a real life story. The story he used to make his point was the story of the man who created Domino's Pizza. It was good and very powerful. Did you know that the three dots on the domino on their pizza box stand for God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit? I didn't until today. Anyway - I am off track.
The main thing I walked away with today was the "domino effect". That things/decisions/actions we have today affect another person. That in turns affects someone else. And keeps going....makes sense to me. I have been just recently on the receiving end of some others "domino effects" in a positive way. For instance, just shopping at Wal-Mart about 2 weeks ago, this woman was beside me in the produce isle and casually said, "I love your freckles." Now...everyone that knows me, knows I hate my freckles! ha! So I told her thanks because I complain about them a lot. She immediately says to me, "Oh, don't do that. God painted your face special. Think about how many people don't have freckles." I liked that! It made me smile, and then I was chatty with the checker as I was leaving and passed it on to her... Not even realizing it. I was just chatty because I was happy. When I was leaving, she said, "thanks you made my day." Pretty cool - huh? I hope she passed it on, and it kept going.
The challenge is to let our light shine. Think of it as a domino effect or a random act of kindness or pay it forward...whatever works for you. Do something nice for someone today. The preacher today passed out domino's to keep in your pocket or purse as a reminder. Good stuff today...God is good! Pass it on!

Blowout!

Oops! We had quite an adventure tonight on the side of the interstate...a blowout on Dad's trailer he let us borrow. Good times! Luckily, it was on the way home and the trailer was already empty. And, our second stroke of luck was that it blew one exit before my Aunt's house. Her hubs came to our rescue. Thanks Scott!
Meanwhile, I texted with a friend...ate chips...drank some DP...and snuck my camera out the window to snap a picture or two. heehee! Sometimes it is good to be a girl! :-)
Oh, and yes Mom - we were right. The first thing Dad said was "Ya'll didn't check the tires before you left. Did you?" Yes, Dad that rotten tire was because we didn't put air in it! ha!
It's a concessions weekend!!! Let the adventures begin!

Finally! Fresh Air!

Even Ms. Fluff is mad at the weather around here...I mean look at that face! ha! After about a month of nothing but rain, what do you expect?Jax will tolerate her if it means he can finally get outside and chill on the deck. Seriously, it has been ridiculous in Arkansas with the rain. Everyday...how people in Seattle do it, I have no idea! I was ready to get outside and get in my flowerbeds!! Finally, the king of the house...Simba...couldn't leave the hunter of the family out. I mean, this weather has really interfered with his hunting!! I am a little concerned about the size of the frogs I saw in the pond this weekend. They are huge...I tried to explain to Mr. Hunter that I did NOT want them in the house! Think he listened?
Kevin was finally able to work in his garden some this weekend too. Ignore the weeds because he only got to do so much before ... you guessed it....more RAIN!
Look at the corn! YUM!

The green beans.... And the first baby squash!!This weekend is supposed to be nice too...but no yard work for us, we are slinging BBQ all weekend again. This will be the first weekend we haven't had to worry about cancellation due to weather! ha! I thought it was April showers bring May flowers....not May showers... :-)
**6 more days with kids (and I'm off Friday, so really 5!!!)

How Many Men?

Would cook rice and chicken broth for their wife's sick doggie? Probably not many, but my Big Bear knows this sick doggie means the world to me. So, I didn't even have to ask. Thanks babe! Look at that sweet grey face!! We don't know why his tummy is upset but he has been refusing to eat. So, we started him on rice and chicken broth for two days and are going to try adding back in his regular food tomorrow. If that doesn't work...it's off to the vet!

Do I have to?

I am in heavy denial that I have to go back to work tomorrow!! I know it's only for 8 more days, but it is 8 jam packed days with hyper kids and tons of paper work. Wahhh!!! This 3 day weekend has been just what I needed. I have 4 out of my 6 flowerbeds ready for mulch. I think once summer gets here, I am going to move one of my flowerbeds but that's another story...(that Kevin probably doesn't want to hear! ha!) I got my pond cleaned out and running. Love my pond! Just waiting now on the new pump to do it's job so I can see my fish!! We spent every bit of wedding money we got at Lowe's this weekend! Isn't that easy to do? I got one of those nifty power trimmers for the bushes that I have wanted for awhile now. Yep, I have loved this weekend...full of things I like to do...and no schedule to get them done by!! Flowerbeds, scrappin', watching the birds in the new bird feeders, and eating Kevin's cooking....life is good!
Until tomorrow....and the classroom full of summer fever children! :-)

First Official Catering

So far it has been a great weekend and just what we needed! A little breather from the craziness of the concessions job the past three weeks...but Kevin still scored a catering on Saturday. The first official catering of Benson's Catering and Concessions! Yay! He practiced on us scrapbookers Friday night with fajitas, beans and rice. It was YUMMY! And we've decided he can cook for scrapbook night from now on! ha! I will say Kevin is a fantastic cook - he can cook anything!! Mexican, Italian, BBQ...He is pretty hard on himself and isn't always happy with his cooking and looks for ways to improve, but I LOVE it! I can without a doubt say you would not be disappointed if he catered for you!
But this is what happens to the kitchen when he cooks...(of course he was cooking for 50 people) but we need a bigger kitchen FOR SURE! LOL!
Maybe this is why our cleaning lady quit! ha!
I'll be doing dishes from now on...but to me, it sure beats cooking! ha!

Pause Button

Don't you wish life came with a pause button sometimes? I cannot remember ever being this crazy busy for this long. I feel like I am going nuts sometimes. I just can't seem to keep up. I am super thankful my Masters class ended early this semester or I'd be drowning. Only 9 more work days with the kids. After that, surely things are going to slow down. I just wanna work in my flowerbeds. Is that too much to ask? ha! I hope the weather is nice this weekend and I get to spend some time outside. I need to get lost in some gardening because that is what I love!!
Here's a quick update on the happenings here ~
*We have a much needed 3 day weekend & are off from concessions this weekend.
*Kevin scored a catering in Conway on Saturday. Yeehaw!
*Scrapbook night is tomorrow night & Kevin is cooking fajita's for us! Thanks honey!
*We had our first married couple fight this week. Boo!!! But making up was fun! heehee!
*We are days away from finishing the Love Dare.
*9 school days left (have I said that??)

I present to you...

My newest toy! I admit that it is long overdue. No more calling people and them thinking I hung up on them because my stupid phone went dead!! Yesterday, a piece of my old phone literally just fell off and the phone turned itself off numerous times. Sorry Michelle!! During this same car ride, my husband is typing away on his blackberry that I envisioned throwing out the window! LOL! So...today, I present to you my new phone!!! The samsung propel that has been my entertainment all night. I have my #'s in, a few ringtones, my doggie's picture as a background and have practiced a few texts. I am all set! Heehee! Feel free to call me so I can either talk on it or figure out my voicemail! :-)

I want...

...to always appreciate the simple things in life.
...to be this in love with my husband years from now.
...Kevin's catering/concessions dream to be a success.
...to raise our kids to be hard workers and know the value of a dollar.
...to more brave about my faith and sharing it.
...to hear the word mom & know it's for me.
...to see pudgy hands reach for me.
...to sit down at the table for dinner each night as a family.
...Jax to live forever. (I know, I know, it can't happen! Boo!)
...everyone to know the peace and joy that comes from having God in your life.
...to raise my kids with old fashioned values.
...to not worry about the little things.
...Kevin to always remember how he got to where he is today and not be afraid to share his testimony.
...to slow down.
...to live each day to the fullest.

That's what I want! :-)

Agenda

The weekend looks oddly familiar and filled with smells of BBQ and dreams of sleeping in!!!
First, thank goodness tomorrow is Friday! Yeehaw! I will have (hopefully) field day tomorrow at school. There are threats of cancelling because of all the rain. Boo-hiss! Kevin will be working concessions all day tomorrow. Thank God for family help! :-)
Saturday we have another full day of concessions. You would think by now I would be tired of the BBQ, but when he asked what I wanted for dinner tonight my answer was ribs. YUM! I didn't get them because they take too long to cook and I didn't give enough notice. But, I bet he can throw some on this weekend! (hint hint)
You know where we will be Sunday - John 3:16.
And, best of all, next week is my last 5 day work week this school year!! YIPPEE!!
Happy Weekend Everyone!

Sorry Thumper!

Lesson Learned: If you have a garden in your backyard and your husband hears you say, "OHHH...look! We have a rabbit in the backyard!" It's not a good thing and he doesn't think the rabbit is cute. He is worried about his garden and gets his BB gun. I couldn't watch and had to leave the room. Squirrels I can handle...rabbits...they are too cute! ha!
Sorry bunny! Next time I won't say anything! Just stay away from the garden!
**15 school days left!! Woo-hoo!! Bring on summer vacation!!

Almost there!

I just got final word on my practicum in the fall and am officially registered...for everything I need to graduate...I will never have to register for a class again! Woo-hoo!! I am in my last two classes this summer. Then, in the fall, I have a one hour portfolio class (nervous about that portfolio!!), and my practicum (which is like student teaching - I somehow have to work AND log in 160 hours in an elementary and middle school library. Not sure how that is going to work, but I will worry about it when it comes!) For now, I am thrilled to have everything lined up. I had to BEG to get into one of the classes to graduate in December. I'm off to do my happy dance!!

I'm just gonna put it out there...

It's not as if anyone would be surprised. I mean, Kevin & I are no spring chickens! So...in putting this out there, I am asking for prayers. We are trying to get pregnant. Now, DON'T ask me every week if I am. That will stress me out. You know I can't keep quiet and our life is plastered all over the internet with this blog and facebook....so you will know because you will hear us scream from joy! I am almost afraid to put it in print or say anything for fear of jinxing it...after all, I am 36 years old. Most of my friends have had trouble getting pregnant and I have never even tried. I have no idea if I will have trouble. My doctor said to give it 6 months before we come and see her. So, for now, just pray with us that it is in God's will that we be blessed with a little one of our own. It's a little scary...actually, it's a lot scary.

Here we go on another journey...isn't life fun??? :-)

Happy Mom's Day!!

A big Happy Mom's Day to my Mom!! I sure hope that saying is true that actions speak louder than words because I know I haven't told her near enough how much I love her. I have an awesome Mom. She is always there for us and is a Mom that I can tell anything to and not worry about being judged. I am just sorry that she has had to worry about me and Bubby so much. We certainly didn't make our mistakes in life because we weren't guided in the right direction. We just got a little off the path sometimes on our own.
Even though it was a rainy, yucky day....I hope you had a good day Mom! *thanks for the picture Scott! :-)
Hope everyone had a great Mom's day! We had a full day of travelling again...it is our way of life lately. ha! First stop, John 3:16 and then race back to NLR to my Aunt's house for a Mom's day lunch that we were only an hour and a half late for! But, it's all good. We still got to see everyone and laugh at my Dad for playing Wii Bowling by himself against himself (because he had already beat everyone else) ha!

Feelin' Thankful...

We are having some yucky, rainy, stormy weather here in Arkansas...weather that could affect our concessions again this weekend!! urgh...so I feel the need to look for blessings rather than what may go wrong depending on this nasty weather!!
**You know I am forever thankful for John 3:16. Last week was a hectic week & Kevin & I had curve ball after curve ball thrown our way. Before John 3:16, this is when Kevin would get overwhelmed and drink. Since John 3:16, everytime we got stressed, Kevin was the spiritual leader of our house and led us in prayer. I have never been so proud or more in love with him! :-)
**I am also thankful for all my supportive friends!!
**Thankful for my new nephews!!**Thankful for old friends...(WE aren't old, we've just been friends since high school - thought I'd better clear that up quick!)Yep, life is good - no matter what this weather decides to do! :-)

Might Be a Redneck...

...if your driveway/garage look like this: Yep, we are officially rednecks! :-)

Still going...

I haven't updated on the Love Dare in over 10 days or so. I cannot give you a daily report or this post would go on and on. But, I will say a few of the challenges over the past few days have been things we have worked through over the past 7 months while Kevin was at John 3:16. I really do highly recommend this book to anyone who is married and struggling or just married and want to have a heightened love for one another. You can do it together or you can do it on your own.
Here are a few from the past few days:
Day 14 - love takes delight "learn to take delight in your spouse again, then to watch your heart actually start to enjoy who they are."
Day 16 - love intercedes - we had to pray for each other in specific areas of need. :-)
Day 17 - loves promotes intimacy - this one dealt with keeping the secrets of your spouse.
Day 22 - love is faithful - on this day we had to dare to say 'I love you period' whenever we disagreed or got irritated. It just so happened to fall on a day that we were running a million errands together, so we used it several times! ha
Day 23 - love protects - this was a GOOD one! I could write an entire post on it! It talks about protecting your marriage from harmful influences, unhealthy relationships, shame, and parasites. Turns out weeding friends that aren't good for you is a good idea after all!
And yesterday was love vs. lust...today is love forgives. The dare is something we did months ago or we wouldn't be married...we have forgiven. The slate is clean...we refer to all that as "before John 3:16".
Now...I dare you...go buy this book!!!

The good and the bad...

*The bad news is that our catering/concessions got rained out today, and they didn't call the event off until we had already cooked some food. The good news is we sold all the food we cooked before we packed up AND have all our inventory for next weekend already!! (that equals less errands this week!!)
*The bad news is in the rain and with greasy BBQ hands, Kevin's wedding ring slipped off and he lost it. The good news is that I have a husband who cares that he lost his ring and is upset about it. There are men who won't wear one...but not mine! :-)
*I really have no more bad news...ha! But I am SUPER grateful for an AWESOME family!! We had Kevin's sister and two nephews and my two cousins all there to help us today even in the yucky weather. THANK YOU!! And, in more grateful news, even with the new deep freeze, we do not have the freezer space we need for all this catering food. My parents have a freezer out in Dad's shop that they are giving us tomorrow! Woo-hoo! The funny part is that they both thought about it on the same day and at different times offered it to us not knowing the other had! Love you both!
