Found it ~ Finally!

At BoxAR's silent auction this past weekend, I found the perfect memorial for Jax (& Rocky too)! As soon as I saw it, I knew it had to be mine! Can you read the words? Perfect! It says "There is a special place in our hearts for those we have loved, for those who have loved us without question, without a word or promise....There is a special place where there is no pain or fear, where love flows freely....There is a special place to rest in our hearts forever."
Now, picture it in a flowergarden surrounded by lillies and hostas...I have looked and looked for the perfect memorial garden piece..and to me, this is IT! I was willing to bid high and feel like I stole it at $45! Now, I am trying to decide if I hold onto it until we move to the country where we will be for awhile or go ahead and make a garden here.
So, mom, what do you think?

Stella's Birthday!

Happy Birthday Stella Blue Benson! Our pups are officially both a year old now! Time flies when you are having fun!! It's been a day full of treats and birthday songs and rib bones...now we are about to take a walk. A good day in dog world! I can't help but wonder how over the top we'll go for a two-legged kid if we make such a big deal over our four-legged ones! LOL!
I will say I never thought I'd see the day that I fell for a lab, but fell I did. Stella is one of the most loving dogs I have ever met. I will forever be grateful to her for mending my broken heart when I lost my sweet Jax (who is still the bestest dog in the world!). How about a trip down memory lane? I mean, who can resist cute dog pictures? :-) And, since yesterday went to the boxers, it's only fair. Right?
Here she is the first day we brought her home....awwww!!! Here's to many more years together!! She's going to make a great dog and best friend for a future human sibling someday! :-)

Bark in the Park

It was raining boxers Saturday at Burns Park! Even in the heat, I was constantly smiling...there were dogs everywhere and 80% of them were boxers!! ahhh!!! Bark in the Park was such a success that it will be a yearly thing now! This precious boxer girl that is pictured first is available for adoption...she is a petite girl and about 8 months old. I want her but I don't think I can handle 3 dogs...especially if we have a two-legged kid! ha! Mom - the fawn one is this picture below is from your house! My four-legged sister! She is fat, healthy and happy! :-)
I love a labradoodle too!
There was a big silent auction...pretty sure that is where most of the money came from! Yay! There was a great turn-out. A local radio station was announcing it every 15 minutes and it was even on the news that morning! Go BoxAR Rescue!!Remember when we fostered Rex's brother, King? Look at him below ~ he is HUGE compared to Rex!! Gorgeous!! What a pretty boy he turned out to be! :-)
King (now Rocko) isn't missing any meals! ha!
This is Izzy, a BoxAr rescue girl that graciously let Rocko join her household!Which one isn't like the others? :-) I am a sucker for a white boxer....I'm a sucker for any boxer! LOL!
Ok...mom, hope you enjoyed all the boxer pics as much as I did! :-)

Highlights

To keep it short and sweet, I'll just give you the highlights of the week...

*This was the 2nd week of summer school. I've only got 3 weeks to go...only 14 days total! It is flying by!

*We had open house Tuesday night. Not sure it was entirely necessary for summer school since I drove back into town for 2 parents. But ok...it's over! ha!

*Last night we had a nice dinner at Kevin's sisters house. Love that family! His sister got us some fresh peaches from an orchard and sliced them and got them freezer ready for us AND some fresh blueberries too!

*My summer school principal gave me a high compliment by trying to recruit me to her school! I am not going, but I take that as the highest compliment! I do love my job and hope it shows!!

*Finally the drama around my school (during the regular school year) getting a new principal has ended. I won't go into all that except to say that the new principal sounds AWESOME! I am looking forward to next year. :)

*I've had some frustrations with my doctor's office again and it was the same nurse...so I can't wait to see my doctor because I am SO going to be a tattle tale! ha!

*I'll leave you with a video of our star furkid, Stella, in swimming action...making her daddy proud! It's only 20 seconds... :)

Backyard Blooms

Disclaimer: These two have taken over my 'jungle' messy flowerbed...so my daylillies aren't quite as pretty as they usually are, but they actually haven't messed up the flowerbeds as bad as I thought they would. This one is the one that gets beat down because they play chase through it! ha! By the pond....oh, I love the pond! :-)
Daylillies...daylillies...all the colors you could want!
My mother-in-law gave me these canna's (sp?) last year and I am growing them along the back fence...love 'em and am going to try to get some more variety mixed in!And a few more daylillies...I better enjoy them while I can before the heat zaps them all! :-(

In honor of Father's Day...

Thank you for taking on the role of being my Dad! There is no "step" in this label for me. This is the Dad who raised me, straightened me out when I needed it, bought my cars and repaired them numerous times!!, loved me the best he knew how, takes the time to build me a deck and a storage shed, and is the best Grandpa to my niece! Thanks for being my Dad! :-)

9th Judgement by James Patterson

**8th book so far this year.
This is one of the Women's Murder Club's books. I read it in 2 days. Loved it! But we all know, it is hard to find a James Patterson book I don't like! ;-) Add this one to your list!

Summary from JamesPatterson.com:

Detective Lindsay Boxer chases a jewel thief, a murderous movie star, and a killer with a vendetta against women and children.

The most personal
A young mother and her infant child are ruthlessly gunned down while returning to their car in the garage of a shopping mall. There are no witnesses, and Detective Lindsay Boxer is left with only one shred of evidence: a cryptic message scrawled across the windshield in blood red lipstick.

The most dangerous
The same night, the wife of A-list actor Marcus Dowling walks in on a cat burglar who is about to steal millions of dollars worth of precious jewels. In just seconds there is an empty safe, a lifeless body, and another mystery that throws San Francisco into hysteria.

The most exciting Women's Murder Club novel ever
Lindsay spends every waking hour working with her partner Rich—and her desire for him threatens to tear apart both her relationship with her fiancĂ© and the Women's Murder Club. Before Lindsay and her friends can piece together either case, one of the killers forces Lindsay to put her own life on the line—but is it enough to save the city? With unparalleled danger and explosive action, The 9th Judgment is James Patterson at his compelling, unstoppable best!

Quick Trip

We decided at the last minute to head out with the pups and go camping this weekend. Everyone in Arkansas seemed to have the same idea. Who would have thought that in the 100 degree weather? We drove to Brady Mountain only to find zero available spots & same story at Crystal Springs. We learned a lesson here - the campsites around Hot Springs just don't have very many sites period. So, when making a last minute trip, go to Heber! :-) The pups had no idea where they were going - just happy to be going! This was Rex's first camping trip. Stella went a few times last fall before we got Rex and she goes with her daddy on his man trips, so she's a camping pro! We ended up at Lake DeGray. When we called, they said they had one spot left and it had a water view. Here's the view....if you look hard, you can see water! ha! But we were happy to find a spot at this point!! I will say that Lake DeGray has some awesome sites...love the decking and being in the woods.
Rex was pretty worn out from taking in all the newness of his surroundings and having visitors come see him. Everybody wants to pet a puppy dog!
Let's put it on record that Big Bear made his best ever gravy this morning! Yum! Thanks for breakfast honey!!After breakfast, we took the pups for a walk and went swimming. And we discovered quickly that Rex can't swim. Bless his heart...he is CLUELESS! In the picture below, he is jumping toward Kevin out in the water and the next jump, he went head first down to the bottom and didn't come back up. Kevin had to rescue him. C.R.A.Z.Y.
So, sissy Stella tried to show him how it is done...but he still didn't get it! Oh well, we are going to take them to some shallow water and try to teach him how to swim....it doesn't look promising! ha!
Stella started out pretty rough and clumsy but within 10 minutes was fetching the ball out of the water and swimming like a pro...guess it comes natural for a lab. Not so much with the boxer...Next weekend is the Bark in the Park, so no camping for a little bit! Join us at Burns Park though! :-)

Kudos

Got to give some kudo's...first, let me say that although I have taught for 12 years, I have only had two principals in all that time. And, this summer I am experiencing my third principal and WOW! She is really making an impression on me! She is at the buses each morning and greets each child as with a 'good morning' as they get off the bus. I heard her yesterday in the cafeteria with them during their lunch quizzing them on compound words because she knew that was what we were studying. How did she know? Because she comes into our rooms everyday....just a little walk in and hello. It's great! The kids know her, like her and respect her. She knows them and it is good all around for the teacher and the kids to know the principal may 'pop in'!! Today I stayed late to get some stuff done for the regular school year so I was there for dismissal and she was right in the middle of it. I just am really impressed!
Tomorrow is week 1 of summer school down, 4 weeks to go! :-)

PS. My school still doesn't have a new principal for next year. Please pray with us that we are sent a good, family oriented, Godly leader. I am also realizing this summer just what a blessing it is to work with strong christian teachers.

First day of Summer School

Today was the first day of summer school and this is for sure going to be different from when I did the math summer school. But I am going to like it, and I am super pumped about getting a jump start on some cool lessons for the fall!! My day with kids is only from 8 am until 11 am...not bad, huh? I have one group that is made of up of kids going into 5th and 4th at 8am, and there is some attitude in that bunch!! But I only have them for an hour and a half. Then, at 9:30, the group that comes to me is full of kids going into 4th and they are sweet and quiet (or at least they were today!). That second group is also mainly kids from my regular school. We have kids from 4 different schools for summer school. So, that makes me feel good about how the students from my school represent! :-) Anyway...I only get 30 minutes for lunch and then we all meet together briefly and then split up with our partners for team planning. And at 1:30 pm, I am done! Sounds easy enough....5 weeks and good pay! Woot! Day 1 down.....23 to go! LOL!
P.S. I did decide today that next summer, I will just work for Big Bear! (and travel around in my new camper he's promised me! heehee!)

Signs of Camping

There is nothing like a good campfire...especially one that Big Bear is cooking some BBQ on! Yum! Kevin and I have to bring roasted peanuts with us on a camping trip...it's just a given!
This is supposed to be the last camping season in the pop-up. It is our fourth season to use it, and it has served us well. But, we (or rather I) have bigger camper fever. And, the plan from Big Bear is that the concessions trailer is going to buy me a new camper! We went and looked on Saturday morning at some nice ones and the fever is in full swing at the moment. Who can say super slide? :)
This was our annual family trip. I must admit it was really disappointing on family turn-out this year. But, it was high on relaxation for us which is just what we needed. We have been so swamped lately with concessions and caterings that it was nice to just be able to breathe and talk and be together. No stress! Ahhhhhh! One thing that I didn't think would be a big deal but was kind of a bummer was that mom & I waited too long to make our reservations and couldn't get sites very close to each other. Oh well, we'll do better next time. Now, time to clean up from camping and gear up for summer school! :)

Aren't my parents cute??? :)
