Our newest toy...

Little delay in getting pics of the new ride taken and posted...the day after I got it, I was sick as a dog. I even left work mid-day and came home and slept til the next morning. I feel fine now but I've passed it to Kevin and I have no voice. Could it be the Arkansas weather? 70 degrees today and yesterday and then Tuesday night down in the 20's??? Anyway - here she is...she's so shiny and pretty! It was for sure a mom mobile though...needs a little more detailing in the back where the kid zone was...maybe with my birthday money, I can get that done! :)
And, this is now the dog zone! LOL! We already took out the third row seats that we'll never use. They are currently sitting in the living room, but I am sure they will eventually make it to the storage shed! ha!Tons more room and I think the gas mileage is about what I got in the Jeep...the only downside is having a car payment and coming up with sales tax!! But that's life!
So, two months of vehicle drama comes to an end and finally we have a reliable ride again. As soon as Upward season is over, we are going on a road trip! :)

One drama down!

The Tahoe is in the garage and this time it is officially mine!!! In true Benson style (you know nothing is simple or easy with us!), we literally drove the Jeep to the car lot and when we stop, smoke starts coming from it. I am NOT making this up! This sweet girl walks up to Kevin and says "Do you know that car is smoking?" HA! Umm...yes we do! By the grace of God we made it from Newport to home last night. It makes all kinds of noises and smokes. But, we made it! I didn't even drive it to work today because I was afraid I wouldn't make it back. So, in good news, we knew we had no choice but to trade it in. The Jeep was just dead. After a little over 146,000 miles together and 7 years, we said goodbye. I LOVE the Tahoe, but I was a little sad to say goodbye to the Jeep. I admit it. Plus, I am going to be on a very tight budget for awhile. all know what is going to happen now right? We are going to get pregnant. Why? Because I am spending our kids daycare money on a new ride. Yep, when we go to work, the Tahoe will have to watch the kid! LOL!
*Pictures tomorrow, I am too tired tonight and it's dark. :)

Vehicle Update

For those keeping up with all our vehicle trouble/drama...after 2 months, 1 week and 1 day, the Jeep is finally home. We drove to Newport and got her after school and we made it all the way back home with no trouble. That being said, I know we made the right decision in trading her in for the Tahoe tomorrow. Sadly, my Jeep will never be the same. I can't explain it - except to say, it doesn't feel the, we were nervous wrecks driving back. We have to sacrifice and have at least one reliable vehicle. the Jeep has to keep running tomorrow so we can go get the Tahoe after school! One more day and the past 2 months will be worth it...AND I will have my first car payment in years!! Yikes!

Weekend Status

Let me just say that Friday was a bad day...I was beyond cranky. Let's sum it up by saying the kids were out of control, the Jeep wasn't ready, and while I was in a meeting, the person in my room did NOTHING with my kids. We cannot have anymore bad weather. My kids have GOT to get back on a routine!! (No worries on the vehicle situation - Dave is holding my Tahoe until the Jeep is ready for me to trade. Awesome!)
Saturday, Kevin had a huge catering that went off without a hitch. Huge thanks to John 3:16 Ministries for helping him make it a success. I was able to stay behind and coach Upward Basketball. They were just as wild as the kids in my class!! One kid almost fouled out of the game - IN UPWARD! It was kind of a nightmare and funny at the same time! I definitely appreciate Kevin's coaching skills after Saturday.
Then, today I volunteered to help out in the 2 year old nursery at church! Big leap for me...I am really only comfortable with school age kids. They were soooo cute!! Totally confirmed to me that if we adopt, I would totally skip the infant stage and jump right in at about 2 years old. Instant love! :)
Now, let's all hope, the weather is sunny this week. No snow to make my kids wild and hold up parts being delivered on my Jeep. Surely, oh surely, this is the week I get the Jeep and then trade her in for that awesome Tahoe. Surely!

Home Early

Snow again! School let out at noon. Let me say this:
snow + early dismissal = CrAzY chaos!

What a crazy afternoon! Calling 20 parents with hyper snow-loving children in the room...stressed out teacher! Plus, we had to go to the cafeteria, get our trays and EAT IN THE ROOM! Fun? Not! Glad that experience is over and apparently we have to make up a 1/2 day. Boo!

Upward practice is cancelled tonight too. Maybe, just maybe, I can finish this teacher of the year application (that puts me in the district running). It is L.O.N.G.!!!! I have already put hours in it and am not finished!

Now, everyone cross those fingers and toes I get my Jeep tomorrow as planned!

Check it out!?!?

Look what is in my garage!!!!! ahhhhhh!!!!! Love having a car salesman friend! :) Now, what to do? What to do? Dave is letting me drive it for a few days to make sure I like it. Ha! Is that even a question? Oh, I like it! It is huge though! I guess you get used to that? I mean, we need a bigger vehicle for camping and pulling and overall travelling with two big dogs. So, this answers that need. It's an '07 Tahoe LT with 82,000 miles on it. It was apparently a "mom mobile" because even after detailing, I found lego pieces in it! ha! Now, decisions to make. It is at the top of my price range (obviously). However, I would drive it for years just like I did the Jeep....opinions? It is super nice and the only thing it is missing that I will truly miss is heated seats....oh, how I love heated seats! But, that isn't a deal breaker. That would be nuts!

PS. Looks like the Jeep will be ready for pick up on Friday and then I could do the paperwork and trade for this one on Saturday or Friday night. What to do? What to do? I am nervous AND excited...can you tell? :)

Dear Jeep,

I have loved you for seven years, and you have been good to me. You have hauled all my landscaping stuff and sometimes been a truck. You have tolerated hauling dogs around and dog slobber on your seats and windows...not to mention the dog hair. You never complained because the back seats always were down for the dogs. Never did you sputter or groan about all the road trips and many, many miles we have traveled together. What are we up to? 146,000? I was so very sad the night you broke down and had smoke coming from under your hood. And, to watch you get loaded up on that car hauler was like seeing you being put into an ambulance. I have missed you over the past two months, and I really, really need you to give your ALL and start running properly again so you can come home. Once you are home, I will clean you up and get you shiny again. And, then we can say a proper goodbye. I know you want me to be happy so do this last thing for me and START RUNNING PROPERLY AGAIN! It's been two's time! Thank you for your cooperation, and I hope to see you by the end of the week.
Your owner

It's a 3 day weekend! Whoot! I realize I just came off a 4 day weekend with the snow, but who doesn't like earning a paycheck and having long weekends? :)
Yesterday we had our Upward Basketball game. We are really starting to love these kids!! This week we only had 4 players, so they didn't get a rest break. They were worn out! I've got to get a picture of me and Kevin in our coach attire! LOL! After the game and a few errands, we ran by my friend's dealership and looked at a Tahoe and talked financing and vehicles...there was a lot of boring boy talk about engines and such. BUT, here is what I know, the '07 black Tahoe that I looked at while they were detailing it, I LOVE! I wouldn't even miss the Jeep and we all know how I love my Jeep! :) Anyway, it is a wait-and-see. We are waiting for the Jeep to be ready (hopefully tomorrow) and then we will see what all got traded in over the weekend at the dealership and go from there. Soon, we will have a reliable vehicle again.
Today, we went to John 3:16 Ministries, and we were a bit nervous a few times in Meatzilla II as we traveled 2 hours from home. We almost just wait on our next break down! ha!Pulling up to this camp just makes me think back to the first time we drove through that gate...we were at the bottom. Kevin was at rock bottom, and I had reached my limit. I think back to how low we were and how this camp was the starting point for turning that all around and bringing us to Jesus. Oh wow, the changes that life takes with Jesus at your side! I wouldn't trade it for anything! I have said it before and I will say it again. I will forever be grateful to this camp for taking our hands and showing us love and acceptance and leading us to God. I will forever be grateful to them for Kevin and the man he is now. May Bryan and Beverly be blessed!!
And, I pray for all the men at the camp now and the graduates. Feel free to pray with me.

GREAT new/Bad news

Want the awesome great news first or the bad news first?....Let's go with bad news first and end on a great note!!
Bad news - short version - we went to get the Jeep today. Yep, almost 2 months after the break down. We made it about 10 minutes down the road and the check engine light came on and back she went to the shop. False alarm. She isn't ready to come home. Wish we'd have known that BEFORE we drove 2 hours to get her!!!!! I feel like I wasted my snow day! ha! But, it was nice to have lunch with my momma at one of my absolute favorite places to eat! :) And, hopefully, in the next week or so, this guy can get the Jeep running and in the meantime, we are looking for something else for me to drive. It's time to admit the Jeep has run its course and say goodbye - as much as I love her, we must part ways. :( Now, we just gotta find something I love JUST as much! The challenge is ON!

GREAT news....drum roll.....Kevin was accepted to be a Gideon! He is a second generation Gideon. His dad is one too. How awesome is that?!?! Pretty awesome! I am super proud of him!!! And proud to be married to him and call him my husband! :-) Love you Big Bear!

We got 7 inches of snow and the cRaZy Arkansas weather part is that I didn't really think this would happen because just Saturday, I was in the backyard with no jacket or coat on!! And, then came Sunday and the temperature dropped and the skies opened and let down buckets of snow!! It's awesome because this is two years in a row that we've gotten the good snow that you can play in. So far, we are at two days home from school...and the pups aren't complaining! They love catching snowballs! LOL!

Sunday, January 9, 2011

It is snowing here and coming down hard! They've already called school and we've already been playing in it. Awesomeness! I love snow!! And, I love being married to a man who likes being snowed in with me. He has already gotten us in over our heads with a snowball war on the kids next door. Days like today are when I sit back, smile, and praise Jesus for my new life!
Snow pics tomorrow!! I am SURE we can build us a snowman! Woohoo!!!

Lots happening...
*Upward basketball practice was tonight. We have our first game on Saturday. I thought my devotion time was a flop, but there's always next time. Overall, the practice was the best they have had! :)
*My Jeep is getting closer by the day of being ready. After almost 2 months (yes, 2 months!!!) of being without my Jeep, it is at a shop and waiting on one more part. The end is in sight. And, the bill isn't toooo bad. And fortunately, I have had my mom's car to drive in the meantime.
*My doctor bills from my surgery have started rolling in. So far, just one. And, not bad. But I know more are coming...
*I had a great vacation over Christmas break and school is kicking my butt this week! Teaching is one career where you can go from "caught up" to "behind" in less an hour!
*We are still loving our new furniture and I plan to use my birthday money to buy a new rug for the living room. :)
*Tomorrow is Homework Lunch club, Matilda movie, and cultural show and tell...maybe I can get organized during Matilda!
*Wish us luck on Saturday for our first basketball as coaches!!! :)

Arkansas is basically shut down for the Hog game! Everything is cancelled so we can all watch the Sugar Bowl! At school, we got to wear Razorback gear, had a blow-up Hog in the hallway with Razorback music playing and even called the Hogs as a school on the intercom today. We love our Hogs! :) Kevin is working on the ribs, sausage and cheese platter, and stuffed jalapenos now....ahhhh, ribs!!! He is wound let's go HOGS!

House Guest

In my women's prayer group at church, we had a prayer request a few weeks ago. It went something like this, "My sister is having knee surgery and needs someone to look after her dog while she is in the hospital. My son is allergic and I can't do it." Consider that request taken care of...that is right up my alley! :)
Enter Mugzi...cuteness! Mugzi was our house guest Wednesday through today. He is one of the cutest and easiest dogs I have ever babysat! He loved Stella!! Usually our doggie visitors go after Rex, but he fell for Stella and she actually played with him! Wow!
Kevin thinks I should open a doggie daycare or something because I always want to take care of everyone's pets for them. Hmmm.... Ha!

2011 Resolutions (Goals)

2010 was a good year overall...I think we had over our share of vehicle troubles and bills to go with it, but the good of 2010 WAY outweighs the bad!

My goals for 2011 are:
1st priority: to get of debt or really, really close to it. This is something Big Bear and I are tackling together as a team this year. I.hate.debt. Plain and simple. It stresses me out. We don't splurge on big things or buy frivolous stuff. Our debt is mainly related to starting our own business and all our car repairs!!!

*I also have a goal of reading the New Testament from beginning to end this year. I have read parts but not straight through. I've already started and am almost finished with the third book. I usually read about 2 chapters a night. Anyway - this is a personal goal to finish.
