Wow! That was FAST!

Is it really Thursday night??? Where did this week GO? I can't believe tomorrow is Friday!!! You know what that means in teacher land? ONE WEEK LEFT to prepare for the BENCHMARK! New grade level this year makes for a nervous teacher that I've done everything I can do for my kids to be successful!!! How do you spell stress? BENCHMARK!
On a good note, look at this boxer artwork that will be available in June at the BoxAR silent auction. Don't miss out!

And, this is how exciting our life is right now...I found a tiller for Kevin at a yard sale preview tonight for $50. That's it. That's all we've got in the excitement department. Just how I like it. Nice and quiet!! Well, except for the fact that Kevin got his foot/ankle ran over today by a golf cart while working at the golf course. He needs to go to the doctor, but so far is just hobbling around. We'll see after a few days with ice....

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

#11
I should slow down after this one. The next three are pretty big ones, and I'm back at work! But last night I finished book 4 of Harry Potter. :)

"Book Four's a very very VERY important book. Something very important happens in Book Four. But also, it's literally a central book. It's almost the heart of the series, and it's pivotal."
J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling, published in 2000. A film version of this book was released in November of 2005. This book is seen by many fans as the beginning of darker times in the wizarding world, as it shows the return of Voldemort.

Spring Break comes to an end

Well, I managed to get 3 out of 5 flowerbeds ready and 2 are just awaiting mulch. It is just a MUD pit in the backyard, so hopefully after a week of sunshine, I can finish those up.
The good news is that I actually rested over Spring Break. And, I do miss my kiddo's and am ready to see them tomorrow. Can't wait to hear about their Spring Break's and see who read what books! :)
Last night, I got to go see The Hunger Games. It was awesome!!! I thought they did a great job of following the book. I knew what was going to happen, but I was still very nervous at different times and I thought I was going to bawl when Katniss took the place of her sister. When I was reading that part in the book, I thought she was so brave. But in the movie, it was heart wrenching to watch.
Today has been a lazy last day of church, napping and reading. Tomorrow back to the real world.

Day 6 of Spring Break

Yesterday was successful! Finally feeling better and got to work in the yard. Granted, I had to wear rain boots because I was working in a mud pit from all the rain, but still. I have 3 out of 5 flowerbeds cleaned out and ready for mulch. Yippee!! And, in about an hour a teenage cousin in need of college money will be arriving to do the hard work of spreading mulch! Double Yippee!!

Besides finally getting to work in the yard, I also went to the beauty shop and went blonde for spring and summer. :) And, yes, I managed to read some of my Harry Potter. This really makes me ready for summer!!!

Today = yard work. And, trying to find reviews from those who went to the midnight premiere of The Hunger Games last night. I will be attending this weekend. I haven't been to a movie since Toy Story 3!!!!! Wow!

Day 5 of Spring Break = R.A.I.N.

No yard work to be done today. Rain, rain, rain. It is also the first day of Spring Break that I've actually felt good. yay! I still have a cough, but I also had energy today! So, Big Bear and I went into "town" and had a nice lunch and ran some errands. We did a little shopping for the both of us and since Big Bear literally had one pair of pants to his name, we got the man some new pants finally. Whew! We may be poor in some ways but we are rich in many others! No tv and one pair of pants, but we've got two smartphones and two laptops! LOL! Priorities people! :)

Our excitement last night during the rain storm was Rex bounding full force through the doggie door soaking wet and dropping "something" at the mat. I'm focused on the mud and wet and Kevin says, "more importantly, what did he just drop?" Ummm....a baby squirrel!!!!!! Gasping for air!!! I may have cried and begged Kevin to take it outside so its momma could get it. And, he did even though he said it was dead. I saw it breathing!! We haven't had drama like that since Simba passed away. Made me miss the ole cat!

Tomorrow, I am hopeful for a little yard work. And, on Friday, I hired a young whippersnapper to spread mulch in the flowerbeds. Rain, rain, stay away!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

#10

I stayed up til midnight reading. Couldn't stop! Starting Year 4 in a bit! I'll be watching the movie either tonight or tomorrow night and then no more movies until I finish the series. I've been told by a very serious Harry Potter fan that after #3, the movies start leaving things out, so to save the rest until I finish. :)

Harry Potter is having a tough time with his relatives (yet again). He runs away after using magic to inflate Uncle Vernon's sister Marge who was being offensive towards Harry's parents. Initially scared for using magic outside the school, he is pleasantly surprised that he won't be penalized after all. However, he soon learns that a dangerous criminal and Voldemort's trusted aide Sirius Black has escaped from the Azkaban prison and wants to kill Harry to avenge the Dark Lord. To worsen the conditions for Harry, vile creatures called Dementors are appointed to guard the school gates and inexplicably happen to have the most horrible effect on him. Little does Harry know that by the end of this year, many holes in his past (whatever he knows of it) will be filled up and he will have a clearer vision of what the future has in store... Day 2, 3, & 4 of Spring Break

This Spring Break is going nothing like I had hoped. Day 1 = sick. Day 2=sick with fever and slept all day. Day 3= sick AND hormonal + anniversary = not a good combo = disaster = major anniversary do-over in the future!! Today, I have no fever but also no energy. I get a few things done and then crash. I also have a deep nagging cough hanging around, so I'm not pushing it. And, apparently, there is a huge rain flooding potential rain storm heading our way. So, I'd say, I'm going to get NO yard work done and I just need to rest and make peace with it. Oh well, best laid plans and all!! Now, where did I put that Harry Potter book???

P.S. For those of you who think I'm a saint for putting up with Kevin. Well, he earned his sainthood triple time yesterday. He was basically residing in a house with a she-devil and has lived to tell the tale!! ;)

On a roll...

#7, 8, 9

I've been on a roll with reading books that have movies to go with them. After reading The Secret Life of Bees and not even realizing it had a movie until after finishing, of course I (we) had to watch it. And, the movie went right along with the book. There were three differences, but only one was a big one that I didn't like. I won't say much about it in case you want to read/watch (which you totally should!!). I told my co-worker about it who is also a reader and she couldn't stop reading for two days and zero papers got graded until the book was finished! ha!

After that, I finally read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (with my class) and picked up the DVD on one of our flea market days. So, of course, we watched it. I can't believe I had never read this book. It was good, but probably not a series that I could read the whole thing. I liked it, but I didn't love it. However, my nephew LOVES it!

Next, I tried to start The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but I've heard from several people it is hard to get into and you have to give it about 200 pages!!! 200!?! Anyway, apparently after all that background that you need to trudge through, the rest of the trilogy is awesome. I read two chapters and decided to put it up until summer when I didn't have to focus on school work at the same time. And, that's when Harry Potter entered the picture!! See how behind I am in updating my books? Yikes! I have read the first two Harry Potter books in the past week and a half. We are watching the first movie tonight and the second tomorrow. I can't believe I have never read this series. Love it!! I love that moving to 4th grade has opened up a whole world of books!!! Ahhh!!! Tomorrow, I start Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!! :)

Day 1

Day 1 of Spring Break = sick. Boo! I felt myself getting sick yesterday but pushed on through the day and got all my work done. NO WORK OVER SPRING BREAK!!!! But, I spent the rest of yesterday afternoon in bed. Today is rest and reading day. Hopefully tomorrow I will be back to 100% and working in the yard. I think I did this over Christmas or Thanksgiving too. It's like my body knows I'm about to have a break and it crashes. :(

Typical

In our usual Benson style of ONE step forward and TWO steps back ... living room TV went out today. Good times. I'd rather read anyway though! :)

Days with kids before Spring Break: 1
Days left before my Spring Break: 2

Counting Down & Looking Up

Current count down to kid's Spring Break: 2 DAYS!!
Count down to MY Spring Break: 3 days!
I.can.make.it. Right????
I even have my "wish list" of what chores I want to get done for Spring Break. Ahhh...yard work, organization and reading, here I come!!!

Things are looking up in BensonLand...caterings are picking back up. Whew! We are about to be out of the red. It's been slim pickings around here. Taxes are done, and we are getting a refund. Better than owing, I know, but a little disappointed that it wasn't as much as year's past. And, we are rounding up help for our yearly big concessions job. No worries on Saturday's, but still looking for Friday help. Hint. Hint. And, next year's school calendar is out. Summer is 10 weeks long this year! Wowzer!! I bet I can teach summer school and still have more than a month off. Yay!!
Now, Harry Potter is calling my name....

Acceptance? Getting there...it's a process.

I've thought about stopping the blogging of the REAL stuff of life. The not-so-pretty times that life hands us, but then that would be fake. I also firmly believe that anytime God hands us a challenge, we are supposed to use it to help someone else. So, if just one person reads my struggles and gains an ounce of strength from it, then it was all worth it.
I do feel like I owe my close family and friends an apology of sorts. I've been one moody gal lately. I feel like most of the time I am just a big ole cranky blob of negative. And, unfortunately, those I am closest to have witnessed it the most. I have been most alive at work, because my kiddo's at school make the rest of the problems go away. I admit that I have been one small step away from depression since November 28th when we found out we couldn't have children. Every single day has been a battle of staying out of the pit. And, this is where I need to admit what I've come to realize lately. I've just been plain mad at God. My prayer life and quiet time have really suffered lately. It's almost like that friend that betrayed you and you avoid them - that's what I've been doing with God. After struggling through a Bible Study on Jonah for 5 weeks and not feeling like I was getting anything out of it, this week is all about being angry with God. hmmmmm!!! Jonah threw a temper tantrum with God, and that's pretty much what I've been doing. I just couldn't get past the "why's?" If anyone can relate or knows what I'm talking about, here are some things that have helped me this week:
*Priscilla Shirer says, "Bottom line, you have to trust God. When asking "Why would God allow this?", you just have to trust God."
*Priscilla Shirer says, "Your anger with God stems from a problem with pride." Ouch!!
*Here's a good one from Wednesday's nights study: Am I going to sulk over the things that I haven't been given that I miss out on the things I have? (Yes, Mom, I know you've also been trying to tell me this one!)
*Priscilla Shirer: What do you do when you've yielded to divine intervention but things still have not turned out as you'd like? You followed God's plan, resting in the comforting thought that at least some things might work out the way you wanted. Now, after the fact, you sit in stunned disbelief. Nothing turned out the way you'd hoped. Without verbalizing it and almost without even knowing it, you made a deal with God. You just knew He would up hold up His end. "Ok God. I'll do this if the result will be that." Obviously you forgot to shake hands on it because God didn't keep His part of the one-sided deal. You are upset, disappointed, and angry with God. Ever been there?
*Sent to me from a friend in a daily devotional and this part really stuck out to me:

But I have discovered a few things that help me when God seems silent…

* Press in to God when you want to pull away.

When I really want to hear from God but He seems silent, I sometimes find I want to disengage from my normal spiritual activities. Skip church. Put my Bible on my shelf. And let more and more time lapse between prayers.

But the Bible says we will find God if we seek Him with all our heart. Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” All my heart includes the parts that are broken. Bring it all to God.

He can handle your honesty and will respond. But we have to position ourselves to go where truth is. Go to church. Listen to praise music. Read verses. Memorize verses. And keep talking to God.

*I realized today in Sunday School that my prayer life has really suffered lately. Without even realizing it, I've been avoiding talking to God. I think in this week's study and at church today, He was letting me know my mourning time needs to wrap up. Stop being angry at Him and just trust.
*Jonah 4:4 "The Lord said, "Do you have good reason to be angry?"
*Psalm 1:1-2 "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night."
*Psalm 1:6 "For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish."
*Matthew 12:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Forgive me for my weakness lately. Continue to pray. I know I am still on fragile ground, but I feel like I am climbing out of the despair and coming back to living life.

Highlights

I heard an idea on KLove the other day that to strengthen your marriage you should ask each other at the end of the day what the favorite part of your day was. Our first try (last night) went something like this:
Me: "The favorite part of my day was when Reece made a 100% on his AR test. He has been working so hard to make his AR goal."
Kevin: "That's cool. The favorite part of my day was my nap."
Me: Silence.
Kevin: "Are you sure this is going to help the marriage and not hurt it?"

Yep, maybe not a good idea after all!

So, I'll share with you the highlight of my day today!! During read aloud, one of my students was leaning back onto a chair. One with a hole in the back and he stuck his head through it (you can see where this is going). Well, they KNOW what they are supposed to do during a read aloud, so usually I can keep reading and just a quick snap of the fingers in a students direction will correct whatever needs correcting. So, I snapped. And, out of the corner of my eye, I could see he was trying to sit back up, but it just wasn't happening. Then I hear some snickering, so I pause to look over and see he has his head temporarily stuck. He got it out, but it did provided some good giggles for a minute or two! :)
I love my job!

Weekend

Saturday was our first free Saturday in 2 months. Upward Basketball season ended last weekend and we were free! So, we had my birthday do-over and hit the flea markets. For this day trip, we hit two spots in Benton and then we were off to Hot Springs. We had lunch at McClard's (which Kevin promptly reminded me that I was taking a BBQ cook to a BBQ place to eat), but it was my birthday do-over so I got to pick. Plus, he puts on a good act. He actually likes McClard's. I had the yummy tamale. It's under there!! Promise! Under all the cheese, frito's, and BBQ meat. Good stuff!!

We had a really good day. Good food, good finds, an ice cream treat and just a day to ourselves without stress. I think my kids were the winners of the day with all the books I scored for them yesterday!! Whoot! We are reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe right now, so I had to grab that movie when I saw it for $3!!

After a full day on Saturday, we headed to my parents place to help them do some stuff for the great move of 2011/2012 that could move into 2013 if we aren't careful!! LOTS of stuff to move!! But, mom is finding all kinds of cool stuff while cleaning out. Check out our lunch boxes that she found:

Don't think I won't carry it to school, because I will!! I even have the thermos! I also brought home a box of old pictures to sort for Mom. Expect some serious scans when I start going through them!!

Nala scare

Wednesday morning was NOT fun around here. I knew something was off when I got up and Nala wasn't right there "telling" me to lift her up on the counter for her morning water out of the sink. She's usually right there with me when I get ready in the mornings. After strolling in late, she got sick. Then, she went into the office and got sick again. When I went to sit in the floor with her for a bit, she had a loopy look in her eyes and was breathing heavy. The heavy breathing was what sent me over the edge. That's exactly what Simba did the morning he passed away. So, with my wet hair and all, I loaded her up and off to the vet we went. I am pretty sure I was almost hyperventilating by this point, because I knew it might be the end. She is 16 years old and has diabetes after all. After a day of giving everyone hell at the vet's office (she is HORRIBLE when I don't stay with her!!), she got to come home. We changed her insulin and her kidney levels are high. So, she is now on a prescription food. I still haven't relaxed. When she is eating good again, I'll relax a little. I know that no one really gets it, because everyone else is scared of her, but she is my baby girl. She has been my baby girl for 16 years now, and for some reason, I might just be the only person she has chosen to love. Ha! For now, my fluffy girl is resting in my lap and purring loudly. Oh, how I love her purr and thank God for giving us a little more time together! :)
*I should probably mention that they couldn't get her out of the cage when pick up time came, so they asked Kevin to go back and get her out. And, she may have bit him once or twice. I wasn't there to actually see it, so I think it may just be a fabrication to enhance the stories of how "mean" she can be. :)
