The Host by Stephanie Meyer

20

I would give it a 3 out of 5.  It drags in parts.  She could've shortened it and kept it more action paced.  After reading so many good ones lately, I could have skipped this one and been ok. It's a good read, just not great.

Summary:
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring one of the most unusual love triangles in literature, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel about the persistence of love and the essence of what it means to be human.

A few almost "after" pics

Supply closet in my office BEFORE I hit the scene:
AFTER my OCD spent some quality time:

 Paper BEFORE:
 Paper AFTER:
 My office BEFORE:
 AFTER: (I love kids artwork!)
Office BEFORE (standing at supply closet):
(Almost) AFTER: (still looking for something to go on wall beside bulletin board)
 K-2 area BEFORE:
(Almost) AFTER: (just looking for pillows and curtains to finish it off)
Tables are for activity time and carpet is for read aloud time. :)
Little stuffed animals are sprinkled throughout the shelves:

I should have taken a before and after of the equipment room!  OH MY!  You couldn't even walk in there, but after today, everything has its place and there is even floor space!!  One area at a time it is coming together.  I will be slowly looking for more book character stuffed animals, colorful pillows and colorful fabric for curtains.  This year, I am going to focus on really getting the K-2 area the way I want and next year I will put together an area for 3-5.  There has been A LOT of recycling going on!! :)

It's the most busy time of year...

...Back to School time that is!  For anyone who works in the school system, the past two weeks and really even the next two weeks are like tax season for an accountant.  We are swamped with to-do lists a mile long and catch ourselves coming and going.  My back is KILLING me!  I ain't as young as I used to be! ;)
My weekend wrap-up went something like this:
Friday - went to work at 7:30 am and worked until had to take Nala to vet.  Ran home to Bryant for cat from Little Rock.  Back to Little Rock to vet.  Back home to Bryant after appointment to drop off cat.  Then, back to Little Rock for work! (Hello, running in circles!) Luckily, Nala was just diagnosed with a bad case of arthritis and was given a shot.  It had been a LONG night the night before.  Lots of cat crying and yowling followed by me crying because I couldn't make it better.  Oh boy!  So, my crazy Friday was operated on little sleep.  I worked until 5 pm and then ran errands FOR work.  Someone needs to count how many trips it takes to Wal-Mart, Target, and Mardel's to get ready for the school year?!?!  After running errands, met Kevin's family for a family dinner (it was yummy!!  Feel in love with Chuy's...gotta go back!).  Then, home about 8:00ish.  LONG DAY!

Saturday morning, I got up and started on some library projects!!  I finished recovering the benches I made last year.  I am using them in the little kid reading area this year.  (Look for a few "after" pictures in the next few days.)  Then, I went to work until about 1 and worked in the library.

I made myself leave at 1pm, so we could run the dogs to NLR for the BoxAR dog wash fundraiser.  I have burned up some major gas this weekend!!!  We made it before they stopped at 3!  Whew!
I think poor Sherri got a bath with Bubba!!  LOL!
Yes, Stella was there too,but I was holding her and it wasn't easy to get any pictures with three dogs and craziness.  Plus, we were on a busy highway and I was afraid one of them would slip their collar or get away somehow.  It was exhausting, but we got 3 clean dogs out of the deal and were able to help out a good cause!
Once home, I did a few chores that I had put off and then made myself STOP and relax with Big Bear and the pups and watch a movie. Ahhh!!
Fast forward to today...and you got church, lunch, laundry, school work, paying bills, doing Kevin's books and cleaning house!!  Funny Girl has NO IDEA in the midst of all that how NICE and THOUGHTFUL her drop-off of my back to school Dr. Pepper truly was!!  Oh my, I needed a happy! :)
 It's coming together...it's a process!
Now, I am going to lay down and read.  My back is yelling at me!

The Before pics!

My office from the door you walk into - how weird to have an office!!
My office from closet door looking out...don't worry, it already looks ALOT different! LOL!
The extra office across the hall - currently where I throw everything until later! But I have plans for it, don't you worry!
As you walk into the library from the main hallway
 Circulation desk area
It's a HUGE space!!!  And it's all in a disarray from carpets being cleaned. :(
Student computer area
Small kiddo corner
Standing at back of library and looking toward entrance
The passing of the keys!!  I love that I am replacing my mentor who helped me get started on this journey in the first place!  She has been a BIG help already in helping me adjust to my new job!!  It's a lot to take in and there are so many things I want to do, but it is overwhelming to try and take everything in.  So, I am trying to breathe and take it one step at a time.
It's going to be a learning YEAR for sure!
Look for "after" pics as the areas change!! :)

Oh, Bubba Bear!

August 10, 2012
August 10, 2013
What a difference a year makes!  It isn't as easy having 3 dogs, but we wouldn't trade him for the world!
  • loves to be with his people
  • has destroyed the ottoman in the living room! :(
  • sits ON the other dogs or his people (has to be touching someone)
  • "talks" to us and his fur siblings (sounds like chewbacca)
  • "boxes"constantly (and his paw is rough!)
  • loves to play with all his toys
  • takes toys away from his fur siblings or cries in front of them until they just give up
  • ruins Stella's game of fetch by jumping on her and pulling on her ear the entire way back to deliver the ball
  • loves attention
  • a good camping and fishing companion
  • a barker!!!  (barks at nothing)
  • a digger
  • brings in sticks to chew on INSIDE
  • chases the broom, vacuum, AND lawn mover entire time!
  • loves to snuggle up
  • one of a kind :)

Exploring Greers Ferry Lake

For as long as I can remember, my family has camped at Old Highway 25 on Greers Ferry Lake.  But, there is a mountain that I HATE pulling the camper up and down to get there, plus, we like to explore new places, so we decided to try some other parks on Greers Ferry and try to cut down on our drive time a little.  So the past few days, we tried Choctaw just past Bee Branch.  It was a shorter drive for us (on the total opposite end of the lake than Old Hwy 25) and an easier drive.  Since it was our first trip there, I blindly picked our campsite and it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't want it on the weekend because this is what we faced: (the boat launch parking lot).
I can see that being a busy nightmare of constant traffic on a weekend, but we were there Sunday through Tuesday, so it wasn't bad.  We did find some other sites that we liked better for future visits. :)  The first morning we were there, I took Stella for a long walk with a swimming pit stop, and found some great views.  I love Arkansas and its beauty!

I have lost count of how many wild eyed pictures I have of Stella like this...JUST THROW IT ALREADY! ha!  This trip, Stella got to go by herself and have momma and daddy all to herself.  She was in heaven!!  I have found a benefit to three dogs - you can take ONE on trips and then when you leave the others behind, they have a buddy, so it's all good! LOL!
We had lots of visitors this trip!!  It was awesome!  My Bubby (aka my brother) works not far from where we camped, so he stopped by for lunch on Monday.
And, Kevin's parents brought their new fishing boat and camped with us the whole time.  We bought a camper with full size bunks so we could have visitors, so I was happy to put it to use!  I think they had fun.  Pop has been fishing since his retirement last week! :)
I bought Kevin a life jacket for going out on the fishing boat with his parents.  We thought we were only going to go 3 at a time, but we decided to all go.  I needed a life jacket and all I had was Rex's dog life jacket, but it worked! ha!
It was a little crowded with 4 adults in a fishing boat, but we sure had fun!!  It took me a bit to get used to a fishing boat and the feel of it.  I grew up on speed boats and party barge boats - big and sturdy! LOL!
 My first catfish!!
Love it!  We all caught lots of baby fish!
View out on the boat...so peaceful!
Nonnie certainly earned her keep by frying up a mess of catfish and making her awesome homemade hushpuppies for dinner on Monday night.  My Bubby even came back with Tayhlor and Lucky.

Stella got to swim with her cousin, Lucky.  See him back there behind her.  He is obsessed with water and swims in circles.  Stella swims with a purpose - get the stick or ball and bring it back.  She kept looking at him out the corner of eye.  You could almost see her trying to figure out what in the world he was doing!

Last morning and my biggest fish so far!  Whoop!  #hookedonfishing
