Spring Break Day 8

Day 8 of Spring Break was the start of Horse Show Season and that meant a trip to Searcy to watch my niece and my Mom ride.  We didn't stay for the whole show because I had scrapbook night with my scrappin' peeps, but we got there on time so we didn't miss my niece riding in with the flags at the beginning. :)  It was good to see my Mom riding too.  She placed first in TWO events!! Whoop!

Spring Break Day 7

A day just hanging out with the hubby (in pictures)...I should've taken some at the pond store, but we were in the middle of a thunderstorm then.  Yesterday was just hanging out and running errands, but fun ones!  A cajun lunch (yum), Barnes and Noble (a favorite), a trip to Sam's where I tried my best to convince the Big Bear that I needed a chicken coop and chickens, followed by a trip to the pond store in a MAJOR thunderstorm!!
Can't you see that in my backyard with some chickens? :)

And our newest family members from the pond store...we are calling the one with stripes "colorful stripey" in honor of some of the names my niece used to name the cats! ha!
A few new pond plants...and then we released the new fellas only to discover that apparently we had male fish and added some females to the mix.  It was "party in the pond" at the Benson's! LOL!
My treasures from yesterday (and I STILL have $60 in gift cards left to Barnes and Noble!!! LOVE!)  Kevin doesn't understand why I buy books when I still have a stack to read. Ha!  I like to have a "selection" when it's time to start a new one.  Right now I am reading book 2 of the Divergent trilogy.  Then, maybe one of these. :)
2 days left of Spring Break. :(

Spring Break Day 5 & 6

Yesterday (day 5) was a total play day.  I went to lunch with my friend, LeeAnn.  We went to Taziki's, one of my favorites!!  Then, we went to see God's Not Dead.  2 movies in 2 days!  That is WAY out of character for me! LOL!  I love that there are TWO Jesus movies on right now at the theatre's.  Makes me smile.  I recommend this one.  Not on the great acting, but on the message.  Is it a coincidence that in two days I have finished a book that made me think "one person CAN make a difference" only to follow it with a movie that made me think the same thing?  I don't believe in coincidences...God's NOT Dead.  Go see it.
I followed up lunch and a movie with a Razorback baseball game with the hubby.  I do love going to watch the Hogs play.  But, last night, it was cold and at some points raining.  We toughed it out, and watched the Hogs WIN!
After all the fun yesterday, we woke up this morning at 4 am (thank you doggie door) to the dogs cornering a opossum under our bedroom window.  Kevin got them inside and locked the doggie door...only for the stupid thing to be on the back fence when we got up this morning.  It was almost taunting them.  Well, you can imagine the fun the pups had this morning.  It only took Bubba Bear about 4 jumps to grab him and yank him down from the fence.  Nasty!
My plans for today were to stay in my PJ's, read and scrapbook.  So far, I have managed to stay in my PJ's but a headache has hampered my other plans.  Not for long though...I see scrapbooking and reading happening soon!
Slooowww down Spring Break!  Slooooower!

Spring Break Day 4

Day 4 in pictures...day 4 was the perfect combo of work and play!  I was able to mulch my favorite flowerbed (the pond area) and mulch my other backyard place where I go to sit and read and relax.  All by myself.  No help needed. :)  So, me and the dogs were outside most of the afternoon.  PLUS, I made THREE camping reservations.  I'm ready to camp!!!  And, I finished a book yesterday morning!
Some of my favorite back yard garden things/places...above is a relaxing place to sit.  I'm down to 2 goldfish and one pond plant though, so Friday, a trip to the pond store is happening.

Fresh mulch...just in time for 28 degrees temps.  Crazy weather!!
Below is usually where you find me in the backyard.  Reading or throwing a tennis ball for the dogs.  I really, really want a hammock or a swing for this area!!  I've hinted all I can hint! ;)

After a back breaking day of yard work, we cleaned up and went to a fancy dinner for our anniversary.  YaYa's is SOOO good!!!  Melt in your mouth good.  Of course, in my opinion, it better be for $100 for two people to eat. :)  Splurge!!  Then, we went to see Divergent.  A successful day. Spring Break just gets me geared up for summer! ha!
Day 5 starts now...and it's all play. :)

I am The Messenger by Zusak

13
This is from the author of The Book Thief.  Totally different style book, but still a very good read.  I think I will definitely have to look at reading a few others by this author.  It didn't go where I expected (which I like), and it makes you think.  I can't really put it into words.  I gave it a 4 out of 5 on my goodreads.  Add it to your list and let me know your thoughts.

Summary from goodreads.com:
Ed Kennedy is an underage cabdriver without much of a future. He's pathetic at playing cards, hopelessly in love with his best friend, Audrey, and utterly devoted to his coffee-drinking dog, the Doorman. His life is one of peaceful routine and incompetence until he inadvertently stops a bank robbery.

That's when the first ace arrives in the mail.

That's when Ed becomes the messenger.

Chosen to care, he makes his way through town helping and hurting (when necessary) until only one question remains: Who's behind Ed's mission?

Day 3 of Spring Break

Day 3 was a lazy morning of reading (it was cold outside!) and after lunch we tackled cleaning up the deck, cleaning the storage building, and getting the pond flowerbed ready for mulch!  I took the tall ugly fence down because Bubba Bear SEEMS to be getting a little better behaved.  Fingers crossed!
And yes, our deck was in a "white trash" state.  When you get SOOOO frustrated over the yard being a swamp, you get discouraged and don't want to go back there. :(
Ready for mulch - cleaned a whole wheelbarrel out of it (aka another burn pile!) :)
 Mucho better!
We also had someone come by and give advice on our drainage.  We officially have a plan.  It's going to be a pain, but we are going to get started as soon as the yard drys out some.  Probably end of May.  So, until then, we continue to conquer some little projects.
We were outside all afternoon and the dogs were WORN OUT!  They came in and immediately crashed!  Poor Stella today played ball so hard that she fell over at one point.  I've never seen anything like it.  She went up to catch a ball and went over backwards and landed flat on her back.  Knocked the air out of her.  Scared me.  But she's ok.  Silly girl.  Wish I had it on video.
On to day 4.... :)

Spring Break Day 1 & 2

Day 1 of Spring Break starting by going to watch one of my favorite former students play baseball.  I adore this child!!  He is now almost a 7th grader! YIKES!  And, yes, after seeing this picture, I realize it is time to shed the winter weight!  Double yikes!  After watching two baseball games, we came home and tag teamed the filthy house so we could enjoy a clean house for the week. :)
Day 2 was supposed to be the start of the french drain install.  BUT, after talking to some people at church, it is on hold until a professional comes out.  Our problem is we have NO WHERE for the water to GO.  The street is UPHILL. :(  Just so you can SEE how bad it is ... I've included pictures of our drainage hell:
You can see above the trail that the water (river) makes all the way through the backyard from the front yard.  Then it pool and STANDS in about a quarter of our backyard is straight up mud and slush and nasty stagnant water.  Good times with three big dogs. NOT!  Below is the start of the trail from the front yard to the back and under the deck to the above picture.
Since it goes under the deck to the other side and the dogs come straight off the deck into it.  This is our redneck bridge for them over the water...It helps keep some mud off the feet.  They actually use it.

Once we realized we weren't spending the week installing a french drain, we decided to go ahead and get a few other chores out of the way because obviously that day is coming...it's just a matter of someone telling us HOW to best go about it.  So, we had two big burn piles that needed tending to.  You know I love a good burn pile!  Dogs that needed sunning and tennis balls thrown (the tricky part was staying out of the mud!), and I got my side summer reading spot ready for mulch. :)

I did miss my Nala girl several times today because I know she would've been outside in the sun with us. :(

I also managed to get some reading and scrapbooking in. :)  Bubba loves it when I scrapbook, so he can eat paper.  Crazy dog!

PS.  I "lifted" my FB ban for Spring Break! :)
