Insurgent by Veronica Roth

14
This is the second book in the Divergent trilogy.  I admit that I read Divergent a long time ago and then realized the whole series hadn't been released so I put this one on hold until the third one came out.  About that same time, they announced Divergent would be a movie, so I waited to watch Divergent rather than re-read it and then pick the series back up.  Now, I don't like it as well as I did The Maze Runner or Hunger Games trilogies, BUT I do think it is good and worth reading.  I would give Maze Runner and Hunger Games 5 out of 5 and this one 4 out of 5 so far.  I am about 200 pages into the third book, so I will let you know overall feelings when I'm totally done.  I also thought they did a good job with the Divergent movie.  And I liked that Kevin saw it with me so I could talk to him about Insurgent as I was reading it! :)  The ending on this book kind of threw me.  I had to reread it three times, but the way it ended means you HAVE to read the third one!

Summary from goodreads.com:
One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

I've been wondering if they were worth the read. I'll wait until you finish the last one and see what you think!
