The Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

This is a young adult series that is the prequel to The Immortal Instruments Series.  I really enjoyed the Immortal Instruments series so I thought I'd love this trilogy.  And, it's not that it's bad.  It actually has really high ratings on, but I feel like I'm reading the same series, same characters with different names, same storyline.  I think you can read one or the other but you don't have to read both series.  I debated on even reading the second one in this trilogy but I wanted to know if I could recommend it to any of my 5th graders, so I started it with full intentions to abandon the book if it was as slow as this one.  But I am really enjoying the second one. (Even though, I won't recommend to anyone jr. high and below).

Summary from goodreads:
In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them.
